Timeline: 1918-1928
To the roar of a great prosperity engine and the razzmatazz of jazz and the Charleston, post-war America featured suffragettes, Will Rogers and Charles Lindbergh, bobbed hair and knees that showed....Small grocery chains increased, and growth in anti-chain organizations followed.
By the end of l928, 26.5 million "horseless carriages" or fast flivvers were on the road and Americans averaged an income of $68l a year.
President and Mrs. Coolidge opened the White House to the entire GMA convention delegation plus guests in 1925. GMA's first Mission Statement, September 26, 1923. 1926: GMA sponsored 20th anniversary celebration of the passage of the National Pure Food and Drug Act. GMA urged eventual adoption of the international metric system and promoted American brands nationwide.
Science Section
The fledgling association created a special science committee, with scientists from member companies meeting three times annually to share information and seek new and more nutritious foods.
