What the FSMA Supplemental Proposals Mean to the CPG Industry

Part I: Friday, October 3, 2014, 11:00 am - 1:00 pm (EST)

Part II: Monday, October 6, 2014, 12:30 pm - 2:00 pm (EST)

Be the first to receive an in-depth explanation of the Proposed Supplemental Rules released Friday, September 19, 2014 from leading experts in this two-part webinar!

Part I: Friday, October 3, 2014, 11:00 am - 1:00 pm (EST)

Joe Levitt, Partner at Hogan Lovells US LLP and former Director of FDA’s Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition (CFSAN) and Elizabeth Fawell, Associate at Hogan Lovells US LLP. They will share their analysis of the Supplemental Rules, specifically addressing the following:

  • Revisions to the 2013 Proposals. How do the Supplemental proposals change the requirements of the original Proposed Rules? For example, how does “hazard reasonably likely to occur” (the old standard) compare to “significant hazard” (the new standard)?
  • New Requirements. What new requirements are added by the Supplemental proposals and what do they mean? Hint: Environmental Monitoring and Domestic Supplier Verification are back on the menu!
  • Interaction between rules. How do the Supplemental proposals clarify how the major FSMA rules will interact with each other? For example, is there consistency between FSVP and supplier verification under preventive controls?
  • GMA’s Comments. How do the Supplemental proposals incorporate GMA’s Comments and what was ignored?
  • Potential issues. What are the high level issues or potential barriers GMA members should focus on during the short 75-day comment period?

Part II: Monday, October 6th, 12:30 pm – 2:00 pm (EST)

Join GMA as we host Rebecca Buckner, FSMA Chief Implementation Manager, FDA Office of Food and Veterinary Medicine and other FDA officials to provide an overview of the Supplemental Rules and what these changes mean for industry.  Webinar participants will have the opportunity to participate in a question and answer session with the panelists.

The new supplements include:

  • The Proposed Supplemental Rule for Preventive Controls for Human Food
  • The Proposed Supplemental Rule for Preventive Controls for Animal Food
  • The Proposed Supplemental Rule for the Foreign Supplier Verification Program
  • The Proposed Supplemental Rule for Produce Safety

These long-awaited changes make significant revisions, and additions, to the original Proposed Rules released back in 2013. FDA has reopened the original dockets for these rules and will be accepting public comment for 75 days. It is likely that this 75-day period will be the last chance industry has to shape these sweeping food safety regulations.

Webinar participants will also have the opportunity to engage with the speakers during a live Q&A session following the presentation.

The Proposed Supplemental Rules are a huge step towards the implementation of FSMA and we hope many GMA members will take advantage of the expertise provided by our expert legal counsel at Hogan Lovells.

Be the first out of the gate to help prepare your company for the changes the Food Safety Modernization Act will bring to the entire food industry.
