Food Microbiology Short Course:
Do-It-Yourself Spoilage and Pathogen Testing

This two-day workshop* is designed to provide lectures and hands-on laboratory sessions on testing for major foodborne pathogens and spoilage organisms in food products. Participants will acquire knowledge of basic to advanced food microbiology and perform specific microbial detection and identification methods. The course will include an introduction to food microbiology, information on bacterial pathogens and their control, and shelf life analysis. The lab portion will include biosafety in the lab, GLP, aseptic technique, the basics of pathogen and indicator testing.
Upon completion, attendees will be better equipped to interpret test results and determine appropriate actions; establish adequate environmental testing; and improve the microbiological quality and safety of a product.
