Complimentary Part II for All Registrants featuring Dr. Paulette Gaynor, FDA

After almost 20 years, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has released its final rule for the process of determining food substances as “generally recognized as safe” (GRAS). The final rule clarifies criteria and approaches to the FDA's interpretation of achieving GRAS status.  Such approaches include:

  • what procedures are involved in submitting and amending your GRAS notice
  • what specific data and information should be incorporated in a submission?
  • what are the agency's provisions for public disclosure of a GRAS notice?
  • the requirement of a certification statement that validates that the GRAS notice submitted is complete, representative and balanced, and includes both favorable and unfavorable pertinent information.
