Kevin Kenny - Moderator
Kevin Kenny is the co-founder and owner of Decernis and is an experienced regulatory attorney who has worked and consulted for 20+ years in the food and consumer products space. He advises some of the world’s largest manufacturers on Food, Food Contact and Supply Chain Compliance challenges globally. Working with a team of native speaker experts in all major markets, Kevin has led a Decernis team effort to expand regulatory coverage to over 200 countries. He spends much of the year meeting with clients to identify and satisfy their needs across the Decernis global client base. Kevin also builds cooperative and partnering relationships with governmental agencies and organizations (today 40+ countries across five continents, including US FDA, European Union, Argentina, Brazil, China and India).
An expert on food contact and food additive regulation globally, Kevin is a frequent speaker at international conferences and an active participant in the Regulatory Affairs Committees of food, cosmetic and consumer product associations. Kevin also attends the Codex Alimentarius Committee on Food Additives in China annually as a member of the International Food Additives Council. Kevin is a proponent of both global and regional harmonization and has provided food contact regulatory consulting services for both food processors and regulatory agencies across all substrates and 200 countries. Prior to founding Decernis, Kevin worked as a regulatory attorney and later VP, International Operations at Ariel Research, which managed product safety regulations globally for chemical manufacturers.
Kevin has lived and worked for seven years across five European and Asian countries and is fluent in German, Spanish and French. He is currently learning Italian. He possesses an honors Juris Doctor, an LL.M. in International Law and the Hague Diplôm de Droit International. In 1992, he was awarded an Alexander von Humboldt Research Fellowship in Bonn and later taught International Law courses at the Christian-Albrechts-Universität in Kiel, Germany.
Sunil heads Scientific & Regulatory Affairs at Coca-Cola’s India & South West Asia Business Unit. In this capacity he is responsible for providing guidance on the Regulatory Compliance, Food Safety, Nutrition and Health Issues to company’s Bottling Operations in India & South West Asia, which comprises of India, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bangladesh, Bhutan, and Maldives. Sunil was part of Core Industry Group that was called on by the Ministry of Health and Ministry of Food Processing Industries to represent food industry’s comments on the Integrated Food Bill brought by Govt. of India in 2005-06. Integrated Food Bill was subsequently enacted as the Food Safety and Standards Act by Ministry of Health. He thus had a unique opportunity to witness transition from erstwhile to the current Food Regulatory Regime in India.
Sunil is member of Regulatory Committees of National Trade & Industry chambers namely CII, FICCI, Protein Foods and Nutrition Development Association of India (PFNDAI) Mumbai, Indian Beverage Association, Delhi and member of Board of Trustees and Executive Committee ILSI (International Life Sciences Institute) India. Sunil in his current role handles range of topics related to Regulation of Food & Beverages in India and South West Asia. This includes Food Category & Food Additive Standards, Food Safety Standards, Nutrition and Health Initiatives. He was part of Expert Group constituted by FSSAI in 2013-14, to draft Guidelines for ‘Making available Wholesome and Nutritious Food to School Children’ as representative of National Restaurant Association of India (NRAI).
Prior to joining Coca Cola India, Sunil was heading the Regulatory Affairs for Foods Division at Hindustan Lever, Bangalore. In his earlier assignments at Hindustan Lever he looked after key functions in Manufacturing & Quality Systems in the Kissan & Modern Foods (Bakery) Business. He successfully led implementation of ISO 9000 and HACCP systems in the Lever’s Kissan & Modern Foods Business respectively. As a Certified GMP Foods Auditor he audited Unilever Food Operations in India, Pakistan and Sri-Lanka. His professional experience spans over 29 years in the Food Industry in India and for a brief period in Thailand. He served in Quality and Product Development roles with well-known brands in Processed Food Sector such as FDC Ltd, Mumbai – manufacturing soya based infant foods; Dunkin’s Donuts, fast food chain in Bangkok, Thailand; and IFFL, Chennai – involved in manufacture of instant snack premixes.
Sunil is a post graduate in Food Technology from University Dept. of Chemical Technology (UDCT), Mumbai. He has completed Post –Graduate Certificate Program in General Management from Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Indore.
Dr. N. Ramasubramanian
Ramasubramanian ( Ram) is a doctorate from Mumbai university. He has more than 30 years’ experience in Indian food industry and has held positions as Quality and Product Development Manager & General manager (Technical) in reputed Indian and multinational food companies. Over the years he has contributed with his expertise in developing number of products in the area of fruit drinks/juices, functional foods, instant foods, baby food, etc. He has also managed manufacturing units, implemented ISO 22000, HACCP and has been practising consulting since 2003.
In 2013, along with Dr Ashlesha Parchure floated VR Food Tech Private Limited head quartered in Mumbai. VR Food Tech Partners with Decernis as its partner on the ground in India.
