The Weakest Link: Supply Chain Resilience, Risk and Litigation

In recent years food, beverage, and CPG companies have become heavily reliant on longer and more complex supply chains, which include increased outsourcing and off-shoring as well as increased reliance on multiple suppliers and repackaging arrangements.  A result of these long, complex supply chains there is a greater risk of interruption, by events such as natural disasters and product recalls. Companies also face heightened risk due to the industry’s fast-changing legal environment.

This webinar will discuss how companies can address changing supply chain risks, including the evaluation of supply chains in light of global economic and legal environment changes; business and legal considerations in supply chain disputes; the availability of insurance and other financial products that address risks; the benefits of contractual indemnities and additional insured provisions; risks unique to international supply chains; and concrete suggestions for identifying and addressing weaknesses in a company’s supply chain.

Looking at Recent Outbreaks and Recalls - What can We Learn About Practical and Regulatory Attempts at Prevention?
The Jensen Farms and Chamberlain Farms cantaloupe listeria and salmonella outbreaks are the latest outbreaks that highlight the continuing food safety issues that producers, manufacturers, retailers and their counsel face. This portion of the webinar will look at practical issues that have arisen from these and other recent outbreaks and recalls; discuss prevention - asking the question, will new breakthroughs eliminate these outbreaks or are there limitations; and briefly touch on the regulatory attempts to address these food safety challenges.
