Industry Affairs Councils
Industry Affairs Council
The Industry Affairs Council is comprised of North American presidents and chief executive officers of GMA member companies and determines GMA’s overall industry policy positions and directs GMA Industry Affairs staff resources. The council sets goals and determines priorities and long-term strategy for GMA’s Industry Affairs group. The council meets two times per year, in the first and third quarters.
The mission of the council is to increase industry value through sustainable and profitable growth of brands and services. This is accomplished by:
- Helping to create a growing, dynamic and efficient marketplace with broad access to consumers, thereby enabling increased consumer preference for our industry's brands.
- Providing manufacturers, sales and marketing agencies, distributors and other trading partners with knowledge and understanding of the forces driving change in the industry.

Chairman’s Advisory Council
The Chairman’s Advisory Council (CAC) is GMA’s leadership body comprised of senior-level executives representing small-cap companies and major operating units of larger companies. Established to review and make specific recommendations on GMA programs and services, the Chairman’s Advisory Council meets twice a year during the first and third quarters. CAC meetings are hosted by key industry retailers and offer valuable collaboration opportunities between council members and retail executives.
The CAC’s mission is to:
- Identify current and emerging issues likely to affect member companies and other operating divisions, which GMA should address on a formal basis.
- Provide feedback to the GMA president and CEO on how well the association is addressing the needs of member companies.
- Provide a forum for executive discussion of the issues and likely impact on all members, particularly operating units within larger companies, as well as mid and small-cap members, which GMA is addressing or considering for future involvement.

Associate Member Council
The GMA Associate Member Council consists of senior-level executives from leading suppliers, service and technology providers to the consumer products industry. Its primary mission is to provide keen and unbiased insight, knowledge and counsel about emerging issues with the aim of improving the business capabilities and results of GMA general member companies.
Working in collaboration with the GMA leadership, the AMC’s goal is to assist in creating and facilitating an open dialogue between and among members while providing solution options for the benefit of the industry and consumers.

FINANCIAL PRACTICE
CFO Committee
The GMA CFO Committee is a peer to peer working group focused on emerging issues that may dramatically impact the short and long term profitability of the CPG industry. Members represent leading manufacturers in the food and consumer products industry and aim to:

Drive profitable growth for GMA member companies by identifying and studying emerging best practices in financial planning and cost-reduction strategies with industry-wide implications.
- Serve as senior counsel for GMA to identify and act on issues related to financial regulation, tax, and other policy issues on an as-needed basis.

SALES AND SALES PROMOTION
Industry Development and Advisory Committee (IDAC)
The IDAC works towards the elimination of duplication between in-house committees, various industry trade groups’ projects, conferences and studies and participates in an advisory role with various GMA IA committees in order to provide a wider exchange of ideas, concepts and recommendations.
IDAC members act as a key liaison between GMA and their respective member companies to encourage and support participation in committees, projects and initiatives.
The IDAC participates on various GMA conference planning committees to provide the association guidance in building more robust manufacturer-retailer engagement.

Joint Industry Coupon Committee
The Joint Industry Coupon Committee works to increase efficiency and effectiveness in the development, distribution and redemption of coupons. This committee is comprised of individuals who oversee a company’s coupon programs and may work in departments such as promotions, marketing, media services and other areas.

Joint Industry Unsaleables Leadership Team
The mission of the Joint Industry Unsaleables Leadership Team is to provide strategies, educational content and tools to help retailers, distributors and manufacturers reduce the volume of unsaleable goods within the consumer package goods (CPG) value chain. This is achieved by:
- Developing strategic management applications
- Identifying and sharing successful practices and recommendations
- Creating educational platforms
- Collecting and disseminating industry intelligence on emerging trends and developments
Members of this committee are the senior most executive with responsibility of overseeing a company's unsaleables, salvage, donation and reverse logistics program. They often work in the sales, supply chain or finance departments.

Sales Agency Committee
The Sales Agency Committee is comprised of senior level agency executives from the GMA agency membership. Committee members include representatives from the three agency types (national, independent and international) to ensure all sales agency points of view are represented. The mission of the Sales Agency Committee is to be the most highly valued and effective resource for agencies and the industries they serve by:
- Providing leadership for agencies and their trading partners
- Advocating agencies' business interests on key issues
- Identifying and creating new business opportunities for agencies
- Promoting the value, role and capabilities of agencies
- Promoting ethical and professional practices among clients, customers and agencies
- Assisting agencies in their continuing development of effective sales, marketing and merchandising organizations
Members of this committee are generally CEO, president, COO, or executive vice president level sales agency executives.

Sales Committee
The GMA Sales Committee is a peer to peer working group focused on emerging issues that may dramatically impact the short and long term profitability of member companies.
The committee works to address important industry issues from a sales perspective, and work towards solutions that benefit all parties. The 2010 focus areas include but are not limited to:

SUPPLY CHAIN AND TECHNOLOGY
Information Systems Committee
The mission of the Information Systems Committee is to promote efficient marketplace practices through the use of information technology and the sharing of knowledge, trends and practices. It also advocates for and champions development of industry-wide model practices within the information technology area, facilitates education in areas of interest to member companies and advances information technology-related initiatives in collaboration with the GMA board of directors, councils and committees. The committee works to achieve its goals by conducting independent research and organizing various discussion groups that delve deep into specific subjects.

Logistics Committee
The GMA Logistics Committee exists to identify emerging logistics trends in the industry with the goal of promoting increased effectiveness and efficient business practices for serving our customers and consumers. The committee accomplishes its mission by sponsoring forums for developing and sharing model practices, completing periodic assessments of emerging trends and issues, and publishing results and recommendations aimed at driving real improvement, and collaborating with customers and other industry associations to develop and implement standards and model practices.

Direct Store Delivery Committee
Comprised of leaders who deliver their products leveraging direct store delivery (DSD), the GMA Direct Store Delivery Committee focuses on emerging opportunities to drive growth, profitability and productivity for CPG companies and their retail partners through the use of the DSD distribution system.

In response to member requests, the GMA Industry Affairs Department formed the Manufacturing Excellence Share Group for GMA member company manufacturing executives to discuss their issues in an open and candid forum.
