GMA strongly supports expanding trade opportunities and lowering barriers to trade around the world. Through free and fair trade, the U.S. strengthens and diversifies its economy, creates jobs for its citizens, and provides benefits to consumers at home and abroad by providing access to the greatest selection of products at the most affordable prices.
The negotiation and implementation of free trade agreements, as well as strong multilateral commitments, ensures the promotion of U.S. food, beverage, and consumer products overseas and the creation of new opportunities to sell products and services abroad.
For too long, the United States has taken a “time out” on trade agreements. While we may have stopped passing and implementing trade agreements, our trade competitors continue full speed ahead – prying open markets and negotiating reforms that benefit their countries’ businesses and workers to the detriment of our competitiveness. Accordingly, our government must move forward with bold and strategic policies on trade that can restore our economic strength and anchor our economic future.
