The consumer packaged goods industry has a long-standing commitment to improving consumers’ lives, both through the products we provide and through stewardship of our environment. To help demonstrate that commitment, GMA, with the help of PricewaterhouseCoopers, published Environmental Success Stories in the Consumer Packaged Goods Industry in February 2012. The report spotlights progress and achievements by food, beverage and consumer products companies as they seek to reduce their environmental footprints and features success stories in the categories of air, water and waste management.
Each of the stories selected for the report demonstrate some or all of the following elements: innovation in system or product design; a quantifiable return on investment; engagement or collaboration with external stakeholders; and reduction or improvement in efficiency of environmental factors.
The report highlights a diverse cross-section of initiatives from an equally diverse slate of manufacturers. Among the success stories featured include companies that are converting inedible food waste to energy, reclaiming water from the manufacturing process, and cutting emissions with underground limestone refrigerated storage facilities.
