(WASHINGTON, D.C.) The Grocery Manufacturers Association (GMA), whose members include leading personal care and household products companies, issued the following statement by Pamela G. Bailey, president and CEO, in response to passage today by the U.S. House of Representatives of the TSCA Modernization Act of 2015, H.R. 2576.
“GMA’s personal care and household products companies are committed to ensuring the safety of their products and maintaining the confidence of consumers so we applaud the expected passage of the TSCA Modernization Act of 2015 which will make significant improvements to chemicals management and facilitate a more cohesive federal approach to chemicals regulation.
“TSCA reform is crucial in the development of a more workable and effective national chemical regulatory program which will further ensure the safe use of chemicals, encourage innovation, and protect American jobs.
“This legislation is expected to be passed by Congress with strong bipartisan support and we are also encouraged that the Administration has voiced its support for this landmark legislation.
“We especially want to recognize the bipartisan leadership of Rep. John Shimkus (R-IL), Rep. Fred Upton (R-MI), Rep. Frank Pallone (D-NJ), Rep. Paul Tonko (D-NY), Sen. Tom Udall (D-NM), Sen. James Inofe (R-OK) with the additional support of Sens. Vitter, Durbin and Markey. These members worked closely with the House and Senate Leadership to secure passage of this important legislation.”
