WASHINGTON, DC – The Grocery Manufacturers Association (GMA) today presented Shelley Doak, executive director of the Maine Grocers and Food Producers Association, with GMA’s 2015 Excellence in Government Affairs Award.
Established in 1997, the annual award is given to an exceptional state association executive in recognition of their work to advance public policy initiatives in state and local jurisdictions on behalf of food, beverage and consumer products manufacturers and their retail trading partners. Doak was recognized during the Food Industry Association Executives 88th Annual Convention in Savannah, Georgia.
“Shelley leads the way in advocating for a healthy business environment for Maine food producers and her knowledge of the legislative and regulatory landscape and the players that shape the process in Maine has been indispensable,” said Mandy Hagan, vice president of state affairs and grassroots for GMA. “Her work on behalf of the goals and objectives of her membership has consistently been of exceptional importance to GMA’s membership.”
Doak, who joined the Maine Grocers and Food Producers Association in 2008, began her career in the private sector, then served Maine in various state government roles including 11 years as Director of the Division of Animal Health & Industry at the Department of Agriculture, Food & Rural Resources. In 2014, Doak was inducted into the Griffin Report’s Women of Influence in the Food Industry.
Previous honorees of the GMA Excellence in Government Affairs Award include Michael E. Rosen of the Food Industry Alliance of New York State (FIA), Linda Doherty of the New Jersey Food Council, Stan Sorkin of the Connecticut Food Association and Ronnie Volkening of the Texas Retailers Association.
