WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Grocery Manufacturers Association (GMA) today announced the establishment of a new awards program to recognize retail organizations who consistently manage their supplier relationships at a superior level. Titled the GMA Retail Honors, the program will honor retailers with awards in three categories: Retailer of the Year, Most Collaborative Retailer and Most Innovative Retailer.
“Expanded cooperation between trading partners is the foundation for growth and innovation in the CPG value chain. The GMA Retail Honors program will spotlight those retailers who are doing the most to educate and inspire their suppliers in ways that produce positive returns for both companies,” said Denny Belcastro, GMA executive vice president, industry affairs and membership services.
Retailers and wholesalers operating in all channels of trade within the United States are eligible to be nominated for the GMA Retail Honors by manufacturers and sales agencies. Nominations in each category will be judged by a steering committee comprised of manufacturer and sales agency executives from the GMA Sales Committee and the Industry Development and Advisory Committee. In determining the winners, the steering committee will carefully consider the number of nominations received by each organization and evaluate nominees based on different criteria in each category such as in-store execution, joint business planning and partnering on new ways to go to market.
The members of the GMA Retail Honors Steering Committee are: Joe Bivona, Vice President, Customer Development, Time, Inc.; Dave Jones, Vice President, Industry Initiatives, Kellogg Company; John Saidnawey, President and COO, Johnson O’Hare Company; Peter Thompson, Director, Customer and Industry Development, Colgate-Palmolive Company; Tracy VanBibber, Senior Vice President and Chief Customer Solutions Officer, The Dial Corporation; and Dan Vucovich, Vice President, Global Chief Customer Officer, The Hershey Company.
GMA is seeking nominations from manufacturers and sales agencies through September 28, 2010. Honorees will be recognized at an inaugural awards dinner on November 9, held in conjunction with GMA’s Shopper Momentum Conference in Naples, Florida.
