The International Association for Food Protection (IAFP) this month awarded Rapid Recall Exchange (RRE) the Food Safety Innovation Award at the 2011 IAFP Annual Meeting in Milwaukee, WI. RRE is a web-based portal launched by GMA, The Food Marketing Institute (FMI), GS1 US and National Grocers Association (NGA) that offers a standardized notification service of recalls and withdrawals for manufacturers to send to retailers.
This prestigious award is given to organizations that create a new idea, practice, or product that has had a positive impact on food safety.
Launched in September 2009, RRE provides timely and accurate product recall and withdrawal notifications to its members through a convenient web-based service. In less than two years, more than 650 companies have subscribed to RRE, including 21 of the 24 largest supermarket chains based in the United States.
The criteria for the Food Safety Innovation Award were based on innovation, uniqueness, industry impact, adoption and recognition within the industry.
