Members from GMA, The Food Marketing Institute (FMI) and Consumer Goods Forum (CGF), in partnership with Chainalytics and Excel, are working to create an innovative multi-company network overlay to identify collaborative opportunities for sharing transportation capacity between companies, on a more broad and holistic scale.
This project, known as the Collaborative Logistics Benefits & Feasibility Assessment, has three phases, and is currently in its initial phase, coordinated by supply chain intelligence service provider, Chainalytics.
Each participating company will provide confidential transportation data to Chainalytics to be mapped with other participant data. This will help determine overlapping and redundant logistics issues, and identify opportunities for collaboration to provide transportation sharing opportunities, reduce costs and improve sustainable best practices.
“We are looking at this to potentially unlock bigger opportunities,” said John Phillips, senior vice president, customer supply chain and logistics, PepsiCo. “I think we all have a responsibility in the industry to create opportunities and frameworks to learn, build and move forward.”
Current participants include Colgate-Palmolive, Dannon, Irving Consumer Products, McCormick, Meijer, MOM Brands, Nestle, PepsiCo, Price Chopper, S.C. Johnson and Wegmans.
GMA will host a free webinar focused on this initiative on March 5, 2013, from 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm (EST), for those interested in more information. To register for this free webinar, click here.
