Supporting Scientific Excellence
The GMA Science and Education Foundation (GMA SEF) is a 501(c)3 charitable foundation that provides significant and meaningful scientific and educational contributions to the food and consumer products industry.
GMA's scientists are recognized by industry and government officials as leading experts in the technical fields of food science and processing. They bring an ability to quickly address issues of importance to the industry through scientific research. GMA SEF research projects are designed to advance knowledge in food safety and food science by targeting broad issues affecting members of GMA. The information is used to educate key audiences and the general public regarding significant matters of importance to the industry.
For more than 30 years, GMA has maintained an open dialogue with FDA and USDA to ensure that the science and regulatory requirements associated with thermally processed foods are the foundation of its educational program, Better Process Control Schools (BPCS). Annually, the foundation offers more than 25 Better Process Control Schools in conjunction with FDA-approved universities throughout the United States. GMA SEF also supports BPCS programs organized outside the U.S. in conjunction with the FDA, universities, and foreign government officials.
Through the foundation, the global food industry can leverage state-of-the-art technologies and processes with the technical expertise provided by GMA's scientific staff to achieve timely results and solutions. GMA SEF projects continue to build GMA's scientific reputation as the findings of its research are submitted for publication in peer-reviewed journals.
GMA SEF projects are funded primarily by industry, government contracts and/or award grants, and contributions from outside groups such as foundations or other institutions.
