The 2nd Edition of Validation Guidelines for Automated Control of Food Processing Systems Used for the Processing and Packaging of Preserved Foods (also recognized as Bulletin 43-L) is a collaborative effort between GMA members and the National Center for Food Safety and Technology (NCFST). Food processing, like many other operations, has become increasingly computerized. The addition of computerized system technology to a processing operation increases the types of process configurations many times over previous mechanical systems. Computerized food processing systems can now be programmed to actually make decisions about the process. This increase in flexibility, complexity and process pathway has resulted in processes that are no longer easily validated. These guidelines describes best practices for appropriate validation.
