Technology is a major area of focus for GMA and the CPG industry, where Internet, integrated network solutions, data mining, and other issues are at the core of major companies' business operations.
Supporting GMA's Information Systems (IS) platform are numerous executive discussion groups held throughout the year—small, focused gatherings for GMA members to focus on technology issues and their potential impact on industry affairs, such as retailer data sharing, social media networking, consumer mobile technology, and more.
In developing an integrated strategy to address the evolving dynamics of technology in the industry, GMA, with the leadership of its IS Committee, has developed industry benchmarks in areas such as resource allocation and enterprise resource planning (ERP) implementation.
Every other year the IS Committee conducts the Information Technology Investment and Effectiveness Survey that benchmarks where member companies are allocating IS dollars in their company. The survey is designed to further help executives to understand the return they are getting from their investment in information technology.
For 2011, the committee will pursue a follow up project to the 2009 Retailer Direct Data Report.
