To ensure consumer safety and manufacturer compliance with allergen labeling requirements, GMA assists members in the evaluation of ingredient lists and component information provided by ingredient suppliers.
Based on established regulations and policies, GMA advises companies on formulation ingredients that are not exempt from declaration and those whose declaration is strongly recommended, as well as options for presenting food allergen information. GMA also advises on the criteria members must evaluate to determine if they should use supplemental allergen labeling, or "may contain" statements. GMA staff can also assist members that may face a situation caused by undeclared food allergens.
