(WASHINGTON, D.C.) The Grocery Manufacturers Association (GMA) today issued the following statement by Pamela G. Bailey, president and CEO, on the Senate confirmation of Ted McKinney as undersecretary for trade and foreign agricultural affairs and Steve Censky as deputy secretary:
“Ted McKinney understands American agriculture and food production and its enormous contributions to the U.S. economy as the single largest U.S. manufacturing employment sector, with 2.1 million jobs in 30,000 communities across the country. He has been an active contributor throughout his career to advance, improve, and sustain America's leading manufacturing sector, one that provides all Americans with safe, healthy, convenient and affordable food and beverage products.
“We are confident that Ted’s leadership will advance science-based global standards and guard against non-scientific barriers that damage U.S. food and agricultural trade.
“Steve Censky has been a key leader for American agriculture throughout his career and was a leader of the nationwide coalition of 1,200 organizations that won passage last summer of the federal law setting uniform national standards for biotechnology disclosure. He has been a strong supporter and vocal advocate throughout his career for agricultural biotech, expanding trade, and increased funding for agriculture research.
“We know that Steve’s considerable experience in American agriculture and understanding of its invaluable contributions to feeding millions of people both here at home and around the world will serve him well as deputy secretary.”
