(Scottsdale, AZ) The Grocery Manufacturers Association (GMA) will present the GMA 2014 Industry Collaboration Leadership Award to J.K. Symancyk, President of Meijer, Inc., at the FMI Midwinter Executive Conference, during the Celebrating the Industry Dinner this Saturday evening.
The Industry Collaboration Leadership Award recognizes an industry leader who has demonstrated excellence in fostering collaboration among trading partners and programs throughout their career that better serve the consumer.
“J.K. Symancyk has been a driving force for collaboration between retailers and manufacturers. His success is an example of what can be achieved when trading partners work together on problems to be mutually solved, accomplishments to be mutually achieved and consumers to be mutually served, said Pamela G. Bailey, president and CEO of GMA.
J. K. Symancyk became a centrifugal force for growth when he joined Meijer in 2006 as vice president of perishables. In seven short years, he skyrocketed to become president, the youngest leader in the retailer’s 79-year history. Symancyk’s leadership at Meijer has fueled sales growth and increased market share. It also has brought about a focus on food, innovation, sustainability programs, and locally produced merchandise. Symancyk stresses transparency with customers, and recognizes the strength in teamwork.
“By staying strongly focused on the shopper, being open about problems and pushing to try creative things, J.K. has created a environment in which partners can work together in new and innovative ways around the shared goals of serving the consumer and responsible growth,” concluded Bailey.
